SATURDAY 08 SEPTEMBER
T8T Fest is an annual event that benefits the Australian Melanoma Research Foundation by raising vital research funds for the fight against melanoma, in memory of Nicholas Tait, a local musician who lost his battle just 14 weeks after diagnosis with Melanoma at the age of 34.
The idea of a musical fundraiser came about at a time of grief in 2016, when his family and friends, shocked by the aggressiveness of this disease, were driven to take action to raise funds and awareness for Melanoma. Nicholas was an avid musician, and always enjoyed performing and listening to live music, and it seemed appropriate that a musical event be created in his memory, with the proceeds being donated to the Australian Melanoma Research Foundation.
This years’ event will be headlined by The Mason Rack Band, ‘Live Act of the Year’ at the 2018 Gold Coast Music Awards. The Mason Rack Band are festival favourites and are an internationally toured blues-rock powerhouse. The raspy vocals of lead front-man, Mason Rack, have been described by fans as one of the sexiest voices in the blues music scene, with flashes from Tom Waits and Led Zepplin.
Joining The Mason Rack Band on the event program will be last year’s headlining act, Born of the Stone, a band founded by former Bowen resident, Jim Martens. Born of the Stone is a fusion of hard rock riffs and soaring pop vocals.
We will also see the return of the popular local musician and crowd pleaser Ben Vico, entertaining with a blend of all music styles. Former local, Gav Bourke will return by popular demand. Gav has been a well-known face on the music scene from Central NSW to North Queensland and also playing at world-renowned festivals.
Tarzie Warzie will bring her own special brand of real-world folk music to the stage, and Brisbane based solo artist, Mizzie Max is sure to impress with her edgy performance style.
In addition to accepting donations to benefit the Australian Melanoma Research Foundation, there will also be a sausage sizzle and many raffles on the night to also raise funds for this worthwhile cause.
